Format and reinstall XP on Precision 670

Have a friends Dell Precision Workstation 670 that the drive really needs to be formatted and and a new installation of XP installed. Had a virus that has been cleaned but left 2 problems that were created and I cannot get corrected. The computer boots normally but will not boot to the safe mode and I cannot enable windows automatic updates. Normally I would have no problems with this but for some reason this system has 2- 160GB HD's with raid partition. Don't understand the need for this. Windows shows the C drive and drive D the (DVD drive). How do I fdisk this drive to remove partitions, format it the one C drive? Need to install raid in doing so? Any help appreciated on this one. Has Windows XP.
