ROXIO CD CREATOR 5 PROBLEMS

Hi guys, wonder if you can help me?

i have a uk dimension 4550 running xp.

im having probs with roxio and my pc, not sure which one is the problem?

if i burn a multisession cd via roxio it lets me name it and burn and it shows me all the files on the disc after i've finished the session ect.........but if i eject the disc and try to read it its telling me its blank?

i've tried opening the folder containing the files and seclecting all and copy to cd/burn to cd that way too, and it does the same? one disc i burnt 27mbs of files too is saying its blank, if i insert in into my dell laptop its telling me its full! file size 27mb but full?

im totally lost! its only started playing games with me this morning, i've not downloaded any new updates from MS or installed any new software or hardware since i burnt anything last, any ideas would be great ;)

thank you

Michelle.

When you use multisession, make sure you check the box to close the session but not the disk.  You can then add more files, but the first ones should be visible even before you finalize the disk.

Thank you Dave, im all present and correct, i have been through everything, its still doing it, some discs it will let me view, some it tells me the session isnt closed, when i closed it! some tells me the disc isnt blank, which i know im adding to it, would i like to add new volume and it will burn, im at a loss, its so unpredictable, im worried whatever i burn im never going to see again!? i think it just hates me :(

thanks for taking time out to advise, i appreciate it,

Hi Clayton, same here! when i burn anything i check the disc properties and i check to see if the session burned fine, and it says all ok, and i burn the exact same way as you, but if i reload the disc, maybe a day or even a week later, it says its either blank..........but when i go to burn on it it ejects it and tells me to insert a disc with enough free space to burn onto (bearing in mind that its saying i have 700mbs free!) its weird!

i usually just open the file and select all and copy to cd, and burn that way, but someone said use roxio properly, its the best way lol!! and look where its got me ;)

i found i used a cheapy disc, with a write speed of 32X so i switched, funny enough to Memorex 52X multi speed and they seem to sound better, the others stop/start and make weird noises most of the time,  but im just at a loss now, im not using the same make of cdrom as you, mine is a samsung it was in the build when i bought the machine, but its still annoying lol!

thanks for your comments ;) nice to know im not alone ;)

I'm very interested in the outcome of this incident. I believe I'm seeing the exact (or darn close) same problem. This starting happening just this week. Over the weekend I burned a data CD fine and was able to read it back after an eject-reload. Yesterday I did the same procedure - burned 1 16mg file using Roxio (track at once, finalize during same seesion). Burn work as expected. Inspection of the CD via Windows Explorer looks great. Eject and reload CD. Drive spins for 1-2 minutes, times out, auto ejects CD. CD reads fine on a different computer / different (manufacturer) CD drive.

I did see another posting that sounded similar - he tried rebooting the machine and that worked. That didn't work for me. I'm beginning to wonder if the LiteOn 24x cd-rw drive is just really sensitive to the CD media that I purchased (el cheap-o 2-for-1 fire sale of memorex discs), although I have just recreated this problem 4 times in a row (remember it worked just fine this last weekend - absolutely no changes to the hardware / software since then).

I haven't seen any Dell driver updates or Roxio driver updates that seem applicable for my XP OS.....

For what it's worth, I have a Dell 8300 with a CD-R/RW drive (Samsung), and I bought the Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 package. I've had no trouble with it at all. I'm using Verbatum 4X-12X RW CD's.

maybe, maybe not on the software upgrade. I did some more tests last night that have me thinking that my drive may be going bad. Chew on this - the LiteOn 24x CD-R/W drive only recognizes half of the blank disks I put into it. When it does recognize one, I can successfully burn it. Burned disk can be read fine by my other drives (same as well as different computers). Any disk that I burned from that drive could NOT be read. Disks burned on another drive read fine. Manufactured disks read fine. Kinda sounding like I need to use different media, or better yet, a new drive so that I can read all that data that I've already archived....

BTW - I read another posting and the guy recommended updating the adaptec ASPI drivers, but this did not help my particular problem.

Thank you for the info, i have a similar prob as you, most discs i burn ok can be read on my laptop, the others that tell me its blank media, i have probs reading via my laptop, someone i know said that as i have a shared drive, ie: read/write, the drive doesnt refresh itself quick enough to see that you have burnt files to the disc, that is why when i reinsert it, it shows up as blank, he suggested getting a second drive for reading, and just use the first drive for burning, if i burn in the first drive, then eject the disc and put it directly in the second to read, it should show up as all being there? dont know if it'll work, but drives arent that expensive so maybe worth checking out.

but thanks for the info, and for the link, gonna go check it out, never know may be the answer i need ;)

there has to be one out there right? lol!

thank you heaps ;)

I can't remember for sure, but I thought that Roxio CD Creator 5 wasn't suppose to work with Win XP. That's why I bought the Roxio Easy Media Creator 7. They advertise that it WILL work with Win XP, and it sure does on my computer. Incidentally, I got my best price on EBay, for what it's worth.

FYI: Roxio V7 will only work on XP/W2K, others need not apply…

V5.2 was the update that worked with everything XP SP1 broke. 5.3.5.10 was the last update issued before it went out of production.

V6 can be found for a good price but again, expect no updates beyond 6.2… Good news is that v6 & 7 don't need updates for new hardware. They use a dynamic detection method, so they run with whatever you bolt on.

I don't really care what the others say but try to stay as far as possible from liteon burners that uses roxio. Liteon usually works as they should with NERO
