For EMC Ionix ControlCenter(6.1 UB7), what are the zipped DBF files in the repository/oradata/rambdb/archive directory used for?

Looking to see if the ECC/Repository/oradata/rambdb/archive files are used for any active or dependant process for ControlCenter?  Currently have 33GB worth of zipped files in this directory alone(2+yrs worth of data); wondering if I need to actually archive this off of an infrastructure server, or just delete to clear up space on the drive?

Hi Michael,

emc231294

ControlCenter 6.1 UB7: Archives directory contains a large number of Oracle archive files (*.gz); Ramb_hotback.bat is not deleting archive files older than 2 days

Issue looks the same as the above EMC Technical Advisory which was sent out at UB7

because of the compression tool change in ControlCenter 6.1 UB7, the file extension for these arcive files has changed from *.zip to *.gz. Because of this file extension change, the script is failing to delete the files with the *.gz file extension.

Apply the fix or workaround mentioned in the Solution

Regards

Conor

These files are for restoring the db.

They should not be deleted manually.

We have daily job, that deletes the obsolete ones.

Thanks

Thank you for the input Veena. This archive directory for our repository is filled with several years worth of 40-50MB backup files(858 total files since 2009), resulting in a 33.3GB archive directory(effectively half of the total amount of storage for this ECC filesystem).

If there is a daily job that deletes obsolete ones, is there a way to find out if that job is running? Or a way to determine which are obsolete(anything pre-2011)?

Thanks again,

Michael

Hi Michael

We would need to look at the ramb_hotback.log and ramb_jobstatus.log files in the ramb_scripts folder.

Please send us the logs and we can get back to you after investigating the logs.

Thanks

Veena

Fix is solution is the following

download and apply Patch 4754 for ControlCenter 6.1 UB7. Registered EMC customers can download Patch 4754 from http://sps.eng.emc.com/Powerlink at the following location:

Home > Support > Software Downloads and Licensing > Downloads C  >  ControlCenter v 6.x >>

>>  ControlCenter 6.1 Update Bundle 7 Patches

Workaround
To work around this issue until the patch can be applied, do the following:

  1. Using an appropriate editor, open the ramb_hotback.bat file in the following location:

    %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\repository\admin\ramb_scripts\ramb_hotback.bat

  2. Find the following lines:

    rambdel.exe "%ramboh%\oradata\rambdb\archive" *.zip 2

  3. Replace the preceding with the following:

    rambdel.exe "%ramboh%\oradata\rambdb\archive" *.gz 2

  4. Save and close the ramb_hotback.bat file.
  5. Open a cmd window to the to %ramboh%\admin\ramb_scripts folder. Run ramb_hotback.bat to

delete archive files older than 2 days.

Thank you Conor and Veena for the help, this seems to have resolved the issue until we can apply the service patch 4754.  I have made the recommended suggestions based on the solution emc231294
