Continuous Data Protection +PIT?

ISMv2 - Chapter 11:

In Continuous Data Protection/RecoverPoint, where on the network is the original replica of the source synchronized to? Does the CDP appliance store both the replica and all of the PIT images? Or does the journal just keep the PIT images, and the appliance keeps the replica/manages the split writes?

Here's the answer from Instructor Chris Chandler:

The recover Point appliance does not hold any data, so the “local” (local to the datacenter)

replica is on the same or “near” storage array. The Journal lun or device is where we keep

the PIT “Checkpoints.” This lun is also on some storage array type storage in the datacenter.

Not in the recover point appliance itself.

A second answer, from Instructor Robert Hoey:

With RecoverPoint CDP, you are replicating between a Production Logical Unit and a Local Copy Logical Unit. The replicated images are written to the Local Journal Logical Unit then distributed to the Local Copy itself. All of the Logical Units in this conversation can exist on the same array and/or within the same SAN which may or may not be stretched. I made the picture below to help explain:

Good answers - thanks for the diagram! A stretched SAN is one expanded and managed by a hypervisor?
