AIX and Powerpath - problem with installation of OS

We have an AIX server running on tech level

5300-05-04-0000.

During the pre-scanning phase of the AIX O.S. patching process, it returned an this error:-

installp: An error occurred during bosboot verification procesing

Running the AIX bootlist command show:-

/[root]# bootlist -m normal -o

hdisk17 blv=hd5

hdisk28 blv=hd5

hdisk25

hdisk36

The bootdevice is located on hdiskpower11:-

/[root]# lsvg -p rootvg

rootvg:

PV_NAME PV STATE TOTAL PPs FREE PPs FREE DISTRIBUTION

hdiskpower11 active 135 59 18..00..00..14..27

/[root]# powermt display dev=hdiskpower11

Pseudo name=hdiskpower11

Symmetrix ID=000xxxxxxxxx

Logical device ID=0758

state=alive; policy=SymmOpt; priority=0; queued-IOs=0

0 fscsi0 hdisk17 FA 10dB active alive 0 0

1 fscsi1 hdisk28 FA 7aA active alive 0 0

AIX bosboot routine prefers to use hdiskpower11 but as you can see in the bootlist, the boot device is hdisk17.

I tried running the pprootdev off command but it returned this error:-

/[root]# pprootdev fix

hdiskpower0: Not yet configured as PowerPath device (Available State)

/[root]#

/[root]# bosboot -ad /dev/ipldevice

0301-168 bosboot: The current boot logical volume, /dev/hd5,

does not exist on /dev/hdisk17.

How can I enable AIX can to see the boot device in the SAN environment? We sucessfully apply same OS patching routine to another AIX server which is not connected to the SAN so I can verify that OS patches are good.

Grateful for any hints and tips.

Best to open a case with support.

There is a section in powerpath install guide detailing how to set boot from san with powerpath correctly, it looks to me like you have missed a reboot or something in the steps. These issues can be tricky though Run EMC grab for support to have a look at.   Without having all the information we could do more harm than good troubleshooting this on a forum.

Support will know  after reviewing the host grab.
