Re: Do we have a symcli simulator?

there is no symcli simulator but there are certain commands that can be run in "offline" mode. Search this forum ..i know there were a couple of threads on that.

Re: Do we have a symcli simulator?

Hello Ashwi,

     Try this...

You can use Solutions Enabler locally on your machine to simulate symcli commands if you copy the symapi_db.bin file to your machine in the path below and set the following variables:
set SYMCLI_DB_FILE = C:\Program Files\EMC\SYMAPI\db\symapi_db.bin
set SYMCLI_OFFLINE=1

I also found a bunch of Forum threads on the "Offline Mode" subject, here is the link that I found the above info in:

Re:Do we have a symcli simulator?

you need to copy it from one of your active symcli configurations. This file gets created once you install SE and run "symcfg discover" on a host that's attached to a Symm.

Re:Do we have a symcli simulator?

Try this Solution, it shows you the location of the symapi file.

Does this help or answer your question?

"What is symapi_db.bin file?"

Symmetrix Configuration Database File

A Symmetrix configuration database (.bin) file, which is stored on the host system, contains the physical configuration information of SCSI devices and Symmetrix parameters that define your entire storage complex. This database also stores information about the TimeFinder and SRDF device group(s), and the devices contained in it.

The Symmetrix configuration database is sometimes referred to as the host configuration database, SYMAPI database (because of how the file is named), or the Symmetrix database file. All of these names are referring to the same Symmetrix configuration database, symapi_db.bin,

Database File Location

The default pathname for the configuration database file for the various Operating Systems are:

UNIX:                /var/symapi/db/symapi_db.bin

Windows:         C:\Program Files\EMC\Symapi\db\symapi_db.bin

OpenVMS:        SYMAPI$DB:symapi_db.bin

You can create an additional configuration database (.bin) file to meet your requirements.

CAUTION !

In a multi-database environment, you should carefully verify that you are operating on the correct database. Always confirm the current database before applying a command. For safe command line environments, it is recommended that you use the common (default) database.

Changing the Current Database File

To check which database file is currently in use, enter:

symcli -def

To change the current database, you need to modify the environment variable SYMCLI_DB_FILE.

For example, on UNIX, to change the database file to symbackup_db.bin, enter:

setenv SYMCLI_DB_FILE /var/symapi/db/symbackup_db.bin

To perform the same operation on Windows, enter:

set SYMCLI_DB_FILE=C:\Program Files\EMC\Symapi\db\symapi_db.bin

Re:Do we have a symcli simulator?

Thats a good point Dynamox makes...run your symcfg discover command just before pulling your symapi_db.bin to insure you get the latest configuration on the array.
