Its the Open Systems method of laying out disks in a regular Cylinder/Head/Sector arrangement, usually of either 512 or 520 byte sectors.
Virtually all Open Systems (Windows, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Netware, etc) use FBA with 512 byte blocks, which in Symmetrix land is just called FBA.
One exception is the IBM iSeries (AS/400) which uses FBA with 520 byte blocks, and hence requires drives with a different low level format (and therefore different part numbers) in Symmetrix.
The other common emulation type is CKD (Count Key Data) as used by IBM mainframe. This has to be emulated by Symmetrix, because its drives are really formatted in FBA512.
Having said all that, I can't find any reference to IBM_FBA or UNISYS_FBA. The valid emulation types for creating drives in Solutions Enabler 6.4 are:
FBA
CELERRA_FBA
VME_512_FBA
CKD-3380
CKD-3390

AS/400_M2105_A84

AS/400_M2107_A07
AS/400_M2107_A87
Celerra FBA is a special subtype of FBA for use with EMC's Celerra NAS product. VME_512_FBA is for ICL VME series machines.
So, for all but these exceptions, use FBA emulation for Open Systems operating systems.
Hope that helps!
