can't remember exactly where on hpux it is ..cd into /var/symapi/db and try to create a file there (touch testfile). If you can't create a file there ..then you won't be able to update symapi_db.bin either.

Hello,

I'm having the same issue with Windows 2K8 64-bit.  Any advice on how to fix?

does your account allow you to create a file in the directory where symcli is installed (\Program Files\EMC\SYMAPI\db) ?

Hello,

on windows, even if you are admin you can run into this due to UAC. Open the command prompt as admin (right click and select run as admin). Do it even though you are already logged in with admin rights.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Roshan Raju.

Roshan,

Thank you for your feedback.  I did as you suggested and I was able to discover the VMAX.

Thanks again,

Sue
