The WWN's are not bound to the particular director as the WWN is built off the array serial number being run through an algorithm. This way the WWN's for any director in an EMC storage array never change and are still unique.

Hi
When replacing a faulty director only the so called director main board with memory modules are replaced. The FA ports is left un touched as its a separate component all together.

WWNs are regenerated and assigned to the new FA ports just as Robert described.

Imagine if the WWN would change, then you would have to change SAN Switch zoning Db too. Static WWPN is a delebrate attempt to avoid multiple changes after part replacement.
