DRAC5 to update BIOS and firmware?

I have used iDRAC6 and the Life Cycle Controller to update the BIOS and firmware of PE servers before but I have one PE2900 which I need to update also.  Can I use a DRAC5 card to do the same as the iDRAC6 and LCC do?  Ideally I'd like to be able to detect and download the updates from FTP rather than downloading a bunch of updates which aren't applicable (such as the SUU).

Hi,

Unfortunately, no the added lifecycle controller update functionality was not available on the 2950s. You can use the repository manager to create a disk with just the needed updates. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=N8WYG&fileId=3214195932&osCode=WNET&productCode=poweredge-2950&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SM

Hi,

I feared as much!

I downloaded the DRM and created a repository for my PE2900 (which seemed to be classed as PE2950) and exported the SUU to a directory.  I ran the SUU on the 2900 but once it had collected the inventory the message displayed was:

The 2900 and 2950 are different models in regards to updates, the 2900 is under tower systems in the DRM, even if you have it in a rack configuration.
