Hello,

OMSA at present does not work in RHEL 8, but the next revision will address this. I believe this update is coming around September. I'm basing that statement around what I saw a developer post in the forum previously.

Hello ,

OMSA will support RHEL8 from its next release i.e September mid .

From few sources heard that it supports 13th Generation server onwards.

Still you can try and install OMSA which should work fine.

Thanks.

Well, here it is, late September, and nothing yet.

RHEL8 installs python2 and/or python3, installer's choice. The OMSA install scripts use the deprecated python, so the install scripts will fail until they rewrite them.

Here is the Open Manage 9.3.1 release notes with OS support stating the support for RHEL8

Hello,

Ok but where to get it ?

Nothing in http://linux.dell.com/repo/hardware/dsu/os_dependent/ and our customers are waiting.

We just miss "you" DELL.

Thank you. I don't know why dell last to include it in the standard directory. Because we used to synchronize this directory and now we'll have to manually get the RPMs ?

Unfortunately the OMSA failed to install :

# yum install srvadmin-omacore
Last metadata expiration check: 0:11:03 ago on Tue 03 Dec 2019 02:19:16 PM CET.
Error:
Problem: package srvadmin-omacore-9.3.1-3654.15433.el8.x86_64 requires libxmlsup.so.2()(64bit), but none of the providers can be installed
- conflicting requests
- nothing provides libxslt.so.1()(64bit) needed by srvadmin-xmlsup-9.3.1-3654.15433.el8.x86_64
- nothing provides libxslt.so.1(LIBXML2_1.0.11)(64bit) needed by srvadmin-xmlsup-9.3.1-3654.15433.el8.x86_64
- nothing provides libxslt.so.1(LIBXML2_1.0.24)(64bit) needed by srvadmin-xmlsup-9.3.1-3654.15433.el8.x86_64

Good luck to find any avalaible libxslt for RH8....from RH or even from EPEL..

Any solution ?

Hello Stephan,

Appears some of the prerequisite rpms are not installed from the error message pasted here.

You can alternatively check the omsa Linux installation guide for installing the needed prerequisite and all dependent rpms.

Kindly search for "dependent" keyword in the linux installation guide pdf.

Quick Installation guide link :

https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/linux_ig_en-us.pdf

Thanks

Ok got it working installing the prerequisite rpms from the installation guide pdf.

Still would be nice when I can install the openmanage from the dell repo so it would also install the required rpms.

Hello Stephan

Thanks for your inputs. I guess it would be a change in design for OMSA installer to check for the dependent RPMs and install seamlessly.

But still, I would be happy to raise this the "change request" for DellEMC customers for the corresponding engineering team's consideration to implement it in futuristic releases.

Thanks

Vivek

Hello,

Yes we need you ASK to your teams to update http://linux.dell.com/repo/hardware/dsu/os_dependent/

to include RHEL8_64.

Please hurry-up... The RHEL was issued 7 month ago and still none on your repo...

Dell is incompetent when it comes to supporting Linux and software in general.  I just took the 9.3.1 RPM's, which are in the installer linked here, and created by own repo in 5 minutes. Why Dell couldn't be bothered to do the same in 4 months so we could simply mirror them is beyond me but not surprising given their history.

Now, what is the ETA on getting support for dsu (dell system update) on RHEL/CentOS 8?  While it installs fine it's still dependant on libssh2 which is no longer included.  There are of course other ways to update firmware but dsu is a convenient way to do it automatically during the provisioning process.

Hi Demesys,

I don't have a Redhat 8 machine to test this on, but give this linked page a look. The documentation is indicating this release of DSU will work with Redhat 8. If this is the version you were referring to above, please let me know, so I can try to find someone to get it corrected.
