OME offline devices firmware updates (No internet)

Hi all,

My OME appliance has NO internet access. I've downloaded all the necessary firmware packages for r350.

1. How could I force my OME appliance to use my locally downloaded firmware packages?

2. Please share useful OME catalog and baseline guide/URLs.

3. Other useful info on OME updates.

Thanks.

Hello @James_007.

I suggest you to check Dell Repository Manager, with that tool you can hace a baseline form firmware update. Create your own and dowload also from Dell site. Please, check: Dell Repository Manager (DRM) https://dell.to/3Vu6gR8

Hope it helps.

Hello Diego and community,

Thanks for sharing DRM tool.

1. When i downloaded specific R350 packages at location "C:\dell\drm\store", in there i saw there are every single DUP package for R350 and numbering folders (inside folder saw same DUP package).

Question: Why there are double copies of DUP packages? This will consume space

2. Once add new R350 repository, i proceeded to download all the DUP packages and EXPORT it (DUP and Catalog) to a file share location. On OME, i create Catalog and points it to CIFS share folder where i exported earlier.

Question: On OME, is that the right way to add a Catalog?

3. As mentioned, my appliance has no internet access and i'm using Catalog on CIFS share location with downloaded DUP folders. When i tried to "Make Complaint", the process failed on verifying Service Tag validation.

Question: My understanding why it failed due to appliance not connected to internet. So, no matter what, the OME Applicance requires internet access for validation of Svc tag, Warranty, others?

Hope community users here can help provide more clarity.

What about my queries #1 and #2 above?

Also, am i right to say, without internet access OME won't be able to run and check hardware Warranty? and what other services OME relied on internet?

Hope some techies share infos.

Hello @James_007,

1. This is the normal tool behaviour. I cannot say if it is required or not. But that is how it normally behaves.

2. In order to make your firmware catalog, so you don't need for ours to be updated, you would need to download Dell Repository Manager (DRM). DRM will allow you to create a catalog and you can add whatever updates you want to it. To use DRM, you would need to download each individual update you want to add to your catalog and add them to the repository.

Regarding sharing, a Windows share can be used as a CIFS share, if that's something you'd want to do.

If DRM is the route you would want to go, I think these three videos might be a good primer. They're on creating catalogs, creating repositories, and adding bundles. The DUPs and non-DUPs (such as .exe, .msi, .bin, or any other file formats) are referred to as components in the manual.

Adding bundles: https://dell.to/38wKfd0

Regards.

I have clients that use OME on disconnected networks and it works fine.

You'll need an internet connected server to run DRM on.

Install it.

Create a bundle

Sync with dell

Export

Then copy that export to the same network where OME is installed.

I copied my export to linux server then represented the export to OME on HTML.

Run a test to make sure all is ok.

I've seen the error your referring to before, it was due to the server being to out of date to update from the Export I had, within DRM there is an option to create bundles from previous months/years. in short, you might have to update your servers in stages, until you get up to the current firmware baselines.

This was painful on a disconnected network however possible, you will get there in the end.
