RAID reconfiguration from DRAC
Will iDRAC8 or better yet new firmware releases for iDRAC7 allow the user to reconfigure the RAID level on an array?
Currently I have to install OMSA on the OS just to do this task and I would prefer to not have to do that in the future for new servers.

Hi Cameron,
Thanks for your post.
Currently "reconfiguration of RAID level on an array" support is not available with iDRAC7 and there is no planned feature release for iDRAC firmware to provide the such support with iDRAC7.
Thanks,
Amit

Cameron - Good news - iDRAC8 actually has a very wide range of RAID options without having to install OMSA/OMSS or revert to a pre-os environment. iDRAC8 with PERC9 allows you to do perform real time configuration commands without a reboot -- for example, create a virtual disc.
We should have white papers out on this topic soon, but until then, please see the iDRAC8 User Guide.
thanks -
Doug

Excellent!
We will have an R730 in the office to play with next week so I will explore that.
Thanks Doug :)
