Unable to update BIOS with IPMI driver disabled error
NX3230, Windows 2012 R2 Standard
Trying to update BIOS, but getting the following error
"Execution status; IPMI driver disabled. Please enable or load the drive then reboot the system"
Can't seem to find any information on enabling or install IPMI.

Well, I decided to give Dell support another call on this and got someone who knows her stuff. She advised that it's a known issue with HP driver and asked me to check Device Manager. In my case, there is a HP device under Storage controller. Once I uninstall it, BIOS update completed successfully. Hope this helps others with the same issue.

I'm having the same problem on 3 x M630 blades. There is an "HP Baseboard Management Controller IPMI Device" with a code 10 error in dev mgr. Not sure what an HP device is doing in a Dell server. Would like to know how to be able to update the BIOS.

Open up powershell and run this: get-service -name IPMIDRV
IPMIDRV service needs to be running for some online DUPs to work.

Hi nadogmoney,
Thanks for the suggestion, I will test it out tonight when everyone is off the network.

Was IPMIDRV not running? If you needed to change the startup type a reboot is required I think because it is a system driver.

IPMIDRV was not running. I restarted the service with PS, but didn't reboot the server. I will give rebooting a try tonight and see how it goes.

Still no luck. Set ipmidrv to startup to automatic, rebooted the server, verified the service is running after the reboot, but got the same IPMI Driver / Library Initialization failure

I have not seen "IPMI Driver / Library Initialization failure" before and only have experience with PowerEdge R servers. I have no more things to try. Maybe something is corrupt with the IPMI bus or BMC. Do you have this issue on other servers with the same model number?
