idrac7 can't access thremal settings through racadm

Hi

It doesn't look like I can access most of the Thermal settings on PE T620

According to https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/idrac7-8-lifecycle-controller-v2606060_Users-Guide_en-us.pdf these should be available and I can see that racadm is aware of them

racadm>>get system.ThermalSettings.FanSpeed
System.ThermalSettings.FanSpeedHighOffsetVal
System.ThermalSettings.FanSpeedLowOffsetVal
System.ThermalSettings.FanSpeedMaxOffsetVal
System.ThermalSettings.FanSpeedMediumOffsetVal
System.ThermalSettings.FanSpeedOffset

When I try to read or set them some would work but for most of the I'm getting an error

racadm get system.ThermalSettings.MinimumFanSpeed
[Key=system.Embedded.1#ThermalSettings.1]
ERROR: Invalid object name specified.

On a related topic is there a way to run T620 with just front fan assembly installed ?  I.E FAN3 through FAN6. but without backfans FAN1-2 ?

Finally where can I find a list of ipmi commands (I.E subset of Appendix G / IPMI 2.0 specification )  supported by Dell for T620 ?

Thanks for prompt reply

Yes the user (root) has full access , I double checked access rights, and latest idrac firmware is installed (as of today).

I believe we refer to the same documentation, so yes they should be accessible that's why I'm posting it here.To make sure we're on the same page, I can access (read/write) some of them like Thermal profile and 3d party PCI fan response

for example

racadm get System.Thermalsettings.ThermalProfile
[Key=System.Embedded.1#ThermalSettings.1]
ThermalProfile=Minimum Power

But can not read the rest of the list

System.ThermalSettings.AirExhaustTemp
System.ThermalSettings.FanSpeedHighOffsetVal
System.ThermalSettings.FanSpeedLowOffsetVal
System.ThermalSettings.FanSpeedMaxOffsetVal
System.ThermalSettings.FanSpeedMediumOffsetVal
System.ThermalSettings.FanSpeedOffset
System.ThermalSettings.MFSMaximumLimit
System.ThermalSettings.MFSMinimumLimit
System.ThermalSettings.MinimumFanSpeed

Attempt to read them through RACADM results in error mentioned above

For example:

racadm get System.ThermalSettings.AirExhaustTemp
[Key=System.Embedded.1#ThermalSettings.1]
ERROR: Invalid object name specified.

With respect to IPMI, yes I did read through the brief, and I'm  looking for information about OEM specific net functions  (I.E IPMI RAW 0x30 xx xx xx).  Some  information is available in the open  but it's very limited and if possible I would like to get it "from the source"

Crond,

The fan settings through the racadm commands should be possible, If you follow this

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> it will go over the commands, as well as the values of each. Another thing to make sure of is that you have admin rights on the server.

Now regarding the removal of the 2 rear fans, the 2 rear fans are seen as default fans, where the 4 front ones are optional, so I don't believe it would be advisable to run without the rears.

Lastly, this link will go over available IPMI abilities.

Let me know how it goes.

Sorry for the delay.

Upon testing internally on a T620, the System.ThermalSettings.AirExhaustTemp attriubute worked, but the others won't work and are stating that the attributes are platform dependent. So that is likely the reason they aren't working, as they aren't supported attributes.

Hello dcol,

Try a different Profile setting:

Minimum Power (Performance per Watt Optimized):

Generally, lower fan speeds at idle and stress loads.

Test with Fan speed offset > try Medium or Low

Please let me know if this helps.

That answer is not very helpful. What is Platform specific? My fan in a T420 is constantly running at 50% and is very annoying. How do I change the PWM?
