A DRAC 5 error has occurred - can't install the plug-in
Description:The Virtual Media plug-in is not installed or running.
Resolution:
- You must have administrative rights on this system to install the plug-in.
- Click the Virtual Media link again. When prompted to install and run the Virtual Media plug-in, click Yes.
- Ensure that your browser settings allow you to download and install the browser plug-ins.
- Ensure that your browser supports Virtual Media. See the DRAC 5 user documentation and online Help for a list of supported browsers.
- Virtual Media may not function properly on Windows operating system clients that are configured with Internet Explorer Enhanced Security. To resolve this issue, see your Microsoft operating system documentation or contact your administrator.
I'm using IE7 and Firefox.
In Firefox, I just get this error and can't proceed beyond.
In IE7, I get the error, but also the prompt for:
"This website wants to install the following add-on: 'DRAC5 Virtual Media Active-X plugin' from Dell Inc.'. If you trust the website adn teh add-on and want to install it, click here... "
I click the 'Here.." and get the option to: "Install ActiveX Control"
So I select it and then I get booted out of the DRAC login and need to log back on.
It doesn't get installed and I'm stuck exactly where I started.
Any pointers on how to get it intalled?

Issue resolved.
Using: IE7
Tools --> Internet Options --> Security Tab --> select 'Interent' (Zone) --> Custom Level... (Button) --> Active control and plug-ins --> Automatic prompting for ActiveX Control --> set to Enable.
That did the trick.
Hope that helps someone someday.

did NOT work for me.
had to go to not Internet zone, but Trusted zoen, since i added the rac ip addy to trysted zone.
THEN, i get more options, but STILL the "Attach virtual media" and the "dvd drive" buttons are both GREYED OUT (not select-able).
the other buttons, for browsing for an iso and so forth have the 'depth', so you can see those are 'enabled' and selectable.
why can i not attach virtual media? why is that the ONLY button not selectable. i have 2950, latest bios, latest rac firmware, etc.
?????
i remember in the textbased rac portion when booting, it had a virtual media opiton - maybe i need to select/enable it there first?????

Make sure the Virtual Media is set to Auto-Attach.

This worked for me too, (it works on any IE version)

almost 10 years later and I am havind the exact problem with my PE R900 with DRAC 5. I updated firmware, did the activeX stuff and auto attach. It still does not work.
