DRAC5 remote console not working after Java Update 51

Jump to solution

Hi Everybody!

After the usual Java update (to Java 7 Update 51) the remote console does not start any more. The java application launcher shows a "Unable to launch application"-Error. Here some more details:

DRAC Firmware Version: 1.65 (12.08.16)

java.lang.SecurityException: Missing required Permissions manifest attribute in main jar: https://drac.example.com:443/plugins/vkvm/avctDRAC5Viewer.jar

at com.sun.deploy.security.DeployManifestChecker.verifyMainJar(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.doLaunchApp(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:744)

I hope that Dell will provide a fix ASAP.

OK - There is a workaround:

The DRAC5 systems must be added to the "Exception Site List" (This can be done in the Java Control Panel in the "Security" section).

Nevertheless it would be nice if Dell would fix this in any upcoming firmware release.

Tuxpoldo,

The issue is due to new security features added in to the update. What you will need to do is add the Drac to the Java Exception Site List. Once there the error should stop.

You can find more about the update here - https://blogs.oracle.com/java-platform-group/entry/new_security_requirements_for_rias

Exception Site List:

The Exception Site List feature allows end users to run Java applets and Java Web Start applications that do not meet the latest security requirements. Rich Internet Applications that are hosted on a site in the exception site list are allowed to run with the applicable security prompts.

Manual Exception Site List:

http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/exception_site_list.html

Let me know if this helps.

So, do I have to add each and every DRAC IP to the exception list?  I cannot get any of my DRACs to work right now, in any viewer!  Very, very frustrating to say the least.  Seems I am always battling JAVA issues.

Hi,
I added the DRAC url to the exception site list, but that did not help.

Will you be creating new, compliant jar files? If so, when?

I have no idea if anyone cares but the real work around is to lower your Java security to medium.  This is of course brings other host of issues but when you need to recover a server you do what you need to do.  An d you can bring security of Java back to high after that.  At some point Dell needs to fix this but given so many different versions of DRAC in  the wild, I wonder if it actually possible.

Lowering of the JAVA security level does help, especially for DRAC's on the local network. I have a DRAC5 system that I am trying to access across a Cisco VPN link, and can get the console display, but have an issue where the keyboard input is not recognized. Have used both Chrome and IE from a Windows 7 Pro PC, with similar results. Any additional feedback on this issue would be appreciated.

Hello! This problem it has with Java 7.51 and new releases.
Find Failla C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Java \ jre1.8.0_31 \ lib \ security \ java.security (this is me)
and open it with a text editor (Notepad)
Find the last line jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms = SSLv3
and put a # in front of it.
then save and replace the old Failla !!!
Let alone to be useful.
