DSM SA Data Manager crashes when running Aladdin/SafeNet HASP installer (Windows Server 2008 R2)

I am having a problem with the DSM SA Data Manager service crashing reproducibly when I try to install or repair Aladdin/SafeNet HASP drivers. This happens with OpenManager Server Administrator 7.2 or 7.3 installed on Windows Server 2008 R2. It happens when running the Sentinel HASP Run-time Environment MSI Installer version 6.56 to install or repair the HASP drivers, or when installing or uninstalling our own software which incorporates the merge modules with that SafeNet software.

The service dies immediately and the Windows Event Log shows the following:
