No Power Reads with IPMI and iDRAC8 on T630

Hi everybody,

two days ago, after a cold reboot, the power readings on iDRAC (Version 2.15.10.10 - Build 08) started to show 0 Watts and so does IPMI.
We do have a redundant power supply, the "Redundancy Policy" is set to "Input Power Redundant" and we are sure it was working before.

Is there something I can do to fix this?

Follow a screenshot and some output from IPMI:

$ sudo ipmitool delloem powermonitor powerconsumption

Power consumption information
Error : Can not access the System Level sensor data

$ sudo ipmitool delloem powermonitor Power Tracking Statistics Statistic : Cumulative Energy Consumption Start Time : Sun Feb 4 14:36:05 2018 Finish Time : Mon Feb 5 13:33:50 2018 Reading : 0.0 kWh <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Statistic : System Peak Power Start Time : Sun Feb 4 14:36:10 2018 Peak Time : Sun Feb 4 14:37:27 2018 Peak Reading : 36 W Statistic : System Peak Amperage Start Time : Sun Feb 4 14:36:10 2018 Peak Time : Sun Feb 4 14:37:27 2018 Peak Reading : 0.4 A

Dear Josh,

We finally solved the problem and it wasn't related to iDRAC but to the PDUs.
One of the PDUs got to an inconsistent state and as soon as we reset it IPMI and iDRAC started to read the power sensor correctly.
It took us some time to figure this out because iDRAC was showing that the two Individual Power Supply Elements were both healthy when instead one was not, or at least not completely.

Thank you for bearing with us,
Nicola.

Hi,

Were there any other changes to the system? Have you tried resetting the iDRAC with racadm racreset?

Hi Josh,

The only change was that we disabled one PCI Slot from the BIOS and enabled another one. An operation that we had been doing it at least once a day in the last days. We saved the changes, done a graceful shutdown and turned the machine back on. Once I realized it was not working I reverted the changes and even try to disable or enable all the PCI slots but that did nothing.

We did not try the reset but we will give it a try ASAP.
Will the reset keep the current configuration?

Thanks,
Nicola.

It will keep the current settings.

We tried both a Reset via RACADM (installed from Dell EMC OpenManage Deployment Toolkit (Linux) v6.1.0 for OM 9.1.0) from the managed server and a Reset via iDRAC GUI but the problem persists.

Do we have any other options? Maybe a Reset via the i-button? (If our system has it.)

Thanks,
Nicola.

It does, you could try that. The other thing would be to try to update the iDRAC and BIOS, but that would require downtime.

We will try those options but allow me one more query: is there a way to find out if the sensor died?

Thank you very much for your time, Josh!
Have a lovely day,
Nicola.

We double checked that the power cables are properly plugged and upgraded the iDRAC to version 2.50.50.50 (Build 33) and the BIOS to version 2.6.0 but the power reads are still not working...

What should we do next?

Nicola.
