R610 BMC Firmware update from linux

Hi fellows,

I need to update a few R610 servers, I'm interested on updating only the BMC Firmware if possible without shutting down the machines, is that possible? I'm running debian on these machines.

I'm opening this because I've been googling a lot this and I've found that may be there's several ways to update the server firmwares, including updating iDRAC completely, etc, but I'm only interested on getting the latest fixes for cooling so I imagine that should be only updating BMC.

Could please some point me in the right direction? I've been searching and I found some binaries in dell FTP, but I need to be sure of where to find the exact firmwares for my machines and what's the most common method to update this via linux.

Thanks fellows, I really appreciate the help.

Hi,

In R610 there is no separate BMC firmware. You need to update iDRAC firmware which have BMC functionalities as well. You can down load latest iDRAC firmware from below location

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/Product/poweredge-r610?driverId=63KCR&osCode=NAA&fileId=3287900761&languageCode=EN&categoryId=ES

You can update iDRAC firmware without shutting down or rebooting the system. As you have debian on these machines, I recommend you to update iDRAC using Web GUI. You can refer below link which have a video on updating process. First half of the video is about downloading the image which changed a bit. You can download File Format "Application" from above link.

Hi!

Thanks for your quick response. I just have updated my drac firmware, now my only doubt is.. how to get the dracadm command line tool for R610? On Downloads for this server, under Systems Management I can't find it, why?

For my last question, I've found that dracadm is not available for R610 servers, but you can get it though OpenManage, and installing OpenManage on debian systems is pretty easy, just following these instructions:
