RAC0225: Sending the test mail failed - iDRAC8
I keep trying with a variety of different settings, settings that I KNOW work on other systems, yet I keep getting the following message:
RAC0225: Sending the test mail failed.
I have changed the Static DNS Domain Name in the iDRAC network settings...
The same setting are working perfectly on my other network devices.
Any ideas?

I found that I needed to add a DNS server to the network properties. In my case the gateway. I was using an external smtp server and well... you know the rest.

Having read all the above, I entered the SMTP server's IP address instead and it work perfectly. I expect using the correct DNS servers would have helped, but I was configuring the server off site so those were not valid on my connection.

Hi,
What model server is it? Is the firmware up to date? What type of idrac license is installed? Are you using the dedicated port or a shared port? If you configure from command line with racadm does it work? If you create a real alert does that work?

Which Mail server are you using? Is authentication enabled on Mail server also? Can you try after disabling SMTP authentication on iDRAC

Please note that I don't have any problem with any other device on my network, all devices send out alerts with no problem at all.

Could you please specify a bit better what you had, what you changed it to, and why it works?
This is driving me crazy.

Hi RIAHC3,
In our case we are using an external service for email. When I set the static IP4 values for the iDRAC I did not include a primary or secondary DNS server. At the time I didn't see the need to add my internal DNS for a DRAC and requests for the outside world will hit the gateway by default where they find the DNS servers defined there (usually). For some reason I had to put the gateway address in the Primary DNS field so that the DRAC could find the external SMTP server. I'm sure using Google's or L3's DNS would have provided the same result.
Anyhow, you have to tell the DRAC where to get DNS info if your mail server is outside of your WAN.

iDRAC Settings
Network
Common Settings
Register DRAC on DNS - Mark box
DNS DRAC Name - Drac Name
Auto Config Domain Name - Blank
Static DNS Domain Name - Your DNS server name
Works to me

This is what worked for me.
My customer is on Office 365 and I had the same alert RAC0225: Sending the test mail failed.
In the SMTP Server field, enter the MX record for your email server. If port 25 is open, use port 25.
Example: domainname-com.mail.eo.outlook.com
Hope this works for you.
