What is the difference between OpenManage Enterprise and OpenManage Essentials?
Forgive me if this question has been asked many times, but I've searched the internet like a mad woman and I can't find anything worth a dang except for a brief PDF on Dell's site. Can any early adopters of the later solution offer me a more comprehensive difference between the two? Which one is good for which scenarios ... (planning on installing Essentials on my R610 server here in a bit). Thanks for the hand, guys. You're awesome.

Hi,
To summarize it OMSA and OME, that would be OME is a One-to-Many systems management, where else OMSA support only the server standalone.

OpenManage Enterprise will be available as Tech Preview late 2017, in the future it will replace OpenManage Essentials.

I get the difference between OME and OMSA. I'm curious about your newest solution (14th generation announcement); with the R640, for example, under systems management software, you say both OpenManage Essentials as well as OpenManage Enterprise ... I also read that openManage Enterprise is a "virtualized solution".

OpenManage Enterprise is the next generation of Dell's one-to-many systems management console. The basic feature set will still be there - discovery, inventory, updating, alerting, etc. The biggest difference is in the underlying configuration. OpenManage Essentials relied on a Windows Server installation with SQL as well as IIS/.NET/SilverLight, this next generation console will be a virtual appliance that leverages OpenSource and HTML5.

Does that mean that OpenManage Enterprise will eventually replace the Windows-run version of OME? In some ways, I kind of hope not, considering part of the fun is setting these things up. I don't always want something that you just turn it on and it works. I'm partially an experimental type, though, too, so that could be part of it.
