omconfig and related commands on R905 running ESXi 4.1
Hi, I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to get access to the omconfig command on my R905 which is running the Dell OS Image, Openmanage (managed node) 6.5 and IT Assistant have been installed and configured - the web interfaces are running on a VM and both work fine. I have installed the vmware power CLI, I have tried the vMA appliance - no matter what I do I cannot get any of the command line shells to recognise the omconfig command?
Can someone please advise what needs to be installed and how to make use of the omconfig commands on an ESXi 4.1 installation.

Thanks for the quick response, when you say use the GUI .... I have tried the commands after logging into ESXi console session using SSH - this yields the same result I.E the command is unrecognised.
Is this what you meant or is actually logging in at the physical console somehow different?

OK there seems to be some confusion - I have had it all set up as described above for some time and have been been using OpenManage Server Administrator without issue (mind you it took some effort to get it working at the time) - this does not provide access to the omconfig command though? There are some settings that can be changed (I am guessing the OMSA GUI uses the omconfig command when you change settings using links from within it??)
However, I am specifically trying to change the fan warning thresholds and the fan probes are not shown as hyperlinks and cannot be configured using OMSA.
Is there a way to run commands from within OMSA - can't find any obvious way to do it myself

Thanks for your effort and detailed responses.
I guess we must assume that the fan probe thresholds cannot be set when running ESXi ? From within OMSA I can indeed set / change many probe thresholds like temperatures (the probe name shows up as a hyperlink which when clicked enables chages)
However the fan probes do not show up as hyperlinks - you can only view the information (current fan speed and min failure threshold) There is no way to set the warning thresgholds and they just show up as N/A
Strange thing is when I first installed OM and OMSA the min and max warning thresholds were set. It was throwing continuous alerts and filling the hardware log because I have replace the fans with slower quieter units (hence the desire to set the thresholds to match the new fans)
With regards to configuring SNMP service / traps ESXi does not support the vicfg-cnmp.pl command (version restriction) you need to edit the etc/vmware/snmp.xml file manually.
