Dell Venue 11 Pro (5130) External Display Not Stretching To Full Screen
On my Dell Venue 11 Pro (5130) when I connect an external display either via the the mini-HDMI on the device or via the Dock and HDMI port I cannot have the external display scale to full screen, when the external display is hooked up (both projector and LCD monitor) I cannot even get an option to scale to full screen. I have the latest Jan 30, 2014 drivers installed for the tablet, no improvement.
The attached images show the huge borders around the 1024x768 screen size, it is not possible to stretch this to full screen on the external display. I have tried multiple monitors and projectors and they all have the same issue. I have also tried to same displays with a Latitude 10 ST2 and it scaled correctly on the external displays automatically.
I am positive this is a driver issue and needs to be resolved quickly by Dell working with Intel. Most worrying is the attached distorted pic that shows a miscolored desktop with the screen cut off to the left, totally unusable.
I have not been able to test the DisplayPort on the dock, as there is an on going technical problem with this dock that is mentioned on this community.

There is an extensive thread on this if you search briefly. Plan is to resolve via a new video driver and a new dock firmware in the near future.

Thanks Brian, do we have an estimate for when the fix will be released? Is it possible to get a beta of this fix so I can check it resolves all the issues we are experiencing?
Thanks, Luke

Just restate that this issue is not just related to the Dell Dock, it also occurs when an external display is connected via the mini HDMI port on the tablet.
We have a large number of the Venue Pro 11 (5130) Atom based units and they all have this issue. Dell when can we expect a driver issue to resolve this?

Thanks for the rely. I agree Intel are doing something funny with the external display. It should be possible to stretch both to full screen all the time. This becomes problematic with projectors as many are limited to 1024x768, or 1280x768, etc and if you project the screen on the tablet has borders.
The opposite is also true, if you try and r a 1024x768 Windows application on an high res external display. The tablet screen will be stretch to that resolution but the projector will be letter boxed.

I have tried the old Latitude 10 dock with the new Dell Venue 11 Pro (5130) and I get the same problems as the new Dock.
This confirms that the problems is not related to the dock firmware but is related to the graphics drivers for the tablet. Dell, can you confirm this and confirm that you are actively working with Intel to fix this problem.
To note that a Latitude 10 connected to a Dock scales video output perfectly on an external display, this problem was introduced with the Venue 11 Pro.

Brain will the 5130 also support 2560 x 1440p via the dock DisplayPort or HDMI? Intel says the z3770 can do 2560 x 1440p both on the internal display or output hdmi @ 30hz. But I can go beyond 1080p on my Asus that supports 1440p. Even using customAppMode to create a 1440p resolution.

Edit:
Should read " I want a new venue and don't want to have to buy a new dock."

Does the Venue work on the Latitude dock then? I want a new latitude and don't want to have to buy a new dock. Interested in USBs, LAN and charging; not bothered about HDMI or sound.

We received the new A01 Dell Venue 11 Pro docks at tested them out, as predicted they did not fix the issue, as the same output is experienced with the mini HDMI port on the actual tablet.
Updates photos, the X mark where the screen should be stretched to if the resolution is lower then the native LCD screen. Dell, do not say this is "by design", this is a driver defect that needs to be fixed.
When I enabled scaling to full screen in the Intel Driver it cuts off 60 pixels or so from the left of the screen.
Hardware is the Venue 11 Pro (5130) with all latest Windows updates, plus the Dell BIOS A06 and the latest April Intel Drivers, all downloaded from the Dell website.

Hi lukemcurley,
I was trying to replicate your issue but was unable to do so when plugging in the lcd monitor and projector directly into the tablet. I am running with the latest Intel chipset driver rev A06 released on 4/4/14 and A07 BIOS released on 4/28/14. You mentioned you were using A06 BIOS. Could you update to A07 and see if you still have the issue?
I do see an issue when the displays are plugged into the dock though. I'll run this by our graphics team to see what they suggest.
Regards,
Adriana

Hi Adriana,
Thanks for the reply, I will try it using A07 BIOS tomorrow. There is an issue with the dock for sure.
Thanks, Luke
