My Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet can't connect to the internet

After the last Windows update, my tablet has been unable to access the internet. I get this message when I run a troubleshooter:

"The Dell Wireless 1538.802.11 a/g ln Adapter is experiencing driver - or- hardware related problems."

My tablet is our of warranty.

I contacted Dell tech support via my laptop and got absolutely nowhere, Was shuffled around until I finally got a page that asked me repeatedly for my service ticket #.  Each time I provided it, it gave me an identical screen asking for it again. A bit surreal.

So here's what I know: My tablet has no wi-fi connection. My tablet is plugged into my laptop, but my laptop doesn't recognize it as a drive. So I can't transfer anything directly from the internet to my tablet through my laptop.

(They're both Dell products. Family feud?)

So I need to figure out how to get information into my tablet without a direct link and without wi-fi, in case the problem requires that.

Or it might simply be a Windows Update problem. About a year ago, somebody answered a similar question on this forum and advised the questioner to find installed Windows updates numbered Xxxx and Xxxx, and uninstall them. The numbers, of course, don't correspond to the updates that were installed just before my internet connectivity disappeared. So I wouldn't have any idea what to uninstall.

I'd appreciate any advice on how to fix this.

As a general matter, because your DV8P is a full computer, you can't simply connect it to your PC as you might do with a smartphone (you may be able to do so using a special cable). 

To fix the WiFi issue:

I had this issue and Dell Tech. Support instructed me to do a "deep discharge" on the tablet (apparently, static can build up in the tablet, leading to the WiFi issue).  Disconnect AC power, if connected; hold the tablet's power button down and turn the tablet fully off, continuing to hold the power button down for an additional 30 seconds (or perhaps a minute); leave the tablet alone for 2 minutes; start the tablet up again.  That, hopefully, will fix the issue (it has for me).

Thank you so much! That did the trick. Now I'm not tempted to use it as a shim under furniture or a rectangular frisbee... it works just fine, and I'll get good use from it..

Hahaha I was thinking the same thing! 
Used as a mousepad for a while, it wasn't even very good for that!
