Why So Secretive?

I really love my Streak.  A clerk at a local Starbucks called it a big screen TV for your pocket.  However, prior to buying this phone I had an opportunity to use the Samsung Captivate with Android 2.1 installed.  I had so much fun with this phone that I nearly decided not to get a Streak.  However, I knew that soon 2.1 would be released for the streak.  Unfortunately, that release was only four the UK and not the U.S.  Now I understand that there is a good possibility that 2.1 could be skipped over altogether and 2.2 released.  Why are you being so secretive about release dates for upgrades?  An estimated date would go a long way as opposed to a "later this year".  I know the full capability of a phone with an upgraded android system.  I am sure you have a team working on this however in a bit of information for the consumer would go a long way.
