Will the Streak 7 get Honeycomb (3.0)?

Just got a Streak 7 and sorry if this has been discussed several times, but is it going to happen?  Is the streak 7 getting Android 3.0?

At this point your guess is as good as mine.  This is rumored to be in the works, but DELL has not given any definite confirmation.

I have a DELL Venue and DELL Streak 7 that I would love to see upgrades to newer versions of Android for.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I would like a real answer on this, as well. Several DELL reps have said it's in the works, but that's not good enough.

I know they rushed this thing to market to have the first, 7", Tegra2, 4G tablet, and it's a great little device, but they can't pull a Streak 5 with this and expect to live. Of course, the Streak 10 is now coming out (slated for next month) with Honeycomb. Maybe they're not wanting to have the Streak 7 steal any thunder from their big offering. This, in my opinion, is a mistake. People will chose their tablet for the size and features. Someone looking for a 10.1" tab won't want a 7" one in any case; why hold the S7 back, then? I don't want a 10.1" tablet. If I did, honestly, I would probably wait for the Samsung.

I have 2 days left in my return window. How about giving me a reason not to send this thing back to T-Mo, DELL? I love the S7 so far (hate the battery, screen is kind of low-end but definitely livable), but the Flyer, GTab 8.9", Acer Iconia 7", and a bunch of others are forthcoming. What do you say, DELL? Or is our upgrade path going to be spelled X-D-A?

I'm thinking soon...the landing page for systems updates is down...perhaps they're getting ready to launch an update?

I also see that the download pages are down.  Interesting.  I hope that it is not just wishful thinking that they are preparing an upgrade.

3.1 is not Ice Cream Sandwich; it's still Honeycomb. The ROM at XDA is still very much a beta, so no hope there (AOSP isn't out yet, and I don't expect a stable ROM until then). Also, it seems Huwei is coming out with a 7" tab running 3.2, which Huwei says is Honeycomb specialised for 7" tabs. Seems there's still hope, as long as Dell isn't planning on abandoning us.

The Streak 7 still has the best processor in a 7" tablet, I hope Dell upgrades us to 3.1 before some other hardware vendor beats them to it in the 7" tablet space. I have the suspicion that we won't see Honeycomb (3.0) at all and won't see Ice Cream (3.1) on the Streak 7 until several months after Dell launches their 10" tablet. They probably don't want to have the Streak 7 detract market share from the new tablet.

There is a 3.1 mod that you can put on the Streak 7, but it's not terribly stable yet. Go to the XDA forums if you want to know more about that.

I am really hoping the delay is DELL waiting for the 3.2 version which is suppose to correct some 7" tablet issues.  At this point I am losing hope that we will see anything due to the lack of communication regarding the Streak and my DELL Venue.  I am not holding my breath.

Last i heard and ready, the S10 will only be sold in China and markets alike. According to various tech sources, Dell does not feel like they can compete in the 10" market. If i am wrong i would love to be corrected.

EddieGuy, Dell can't compete with anyone in the mobile device relm! Their customer support on their devices sucks! Instead of responding to customer concerns, they would rather loss customer by giving them the silent treatment. They are a real class act company who have no business selling products for a premium if they can't support them 3 months later!

I'll tell you one thing. If they DON'T upgrade to Honeycomb on the streak 7, they've indeed lost a customer for life. I will NEVER purchase another dell product so long as I live and I hope others feel the same. They're not going to support their products, I'm not going to buy them. If they do upgrade, you can bet I'll be picking up a Streak 10!!

Dell's really going to have to get with the paradigm for mobile. They're used to desktop, where coming out with an upgrade a few moths late isn't a big deal (heck, there are still Vista boxes being sold out there). Look at the Streak 5: great hardware crippled by an outdated version of Android (sound familiar?). They eventually got FroYo running on it, making it what it should have been in the first place. If they had upgraded to FroYo sooner (or just released with FroYo), the Streak 5 might have been a hit.

Now we have the Streak 7; great hardware (quibbles about the screen and battery aside) hampered by outdated firmware. They'll eventually release Honeycomb and it'll be the device it ought to have been at release. If Dell wants to get over their dismal sales figures, they're going to have to figure out how to do this right.

1. Don't abandon customers (this includes giving out updates late, as well as not at all).

2. Release with the most up to date version of Android (smartly, they're only using a home replacement for Stage UI; shouldn't be difficult to update the firmware).

3. Differentiate with your form factor/hardware features, not software (like the Streak 7 and 5 being slightly smaller and larger than their competition, respectively).

4. Profit! (Looky there- no missing step. You're welcome, Dell.)

Agree, I saw that BJs will have the Transformer for $349 and If Dell doesn't get their act together soon I'll be making the switch never to return and I've dropped a few bucks at Dell over the years. No customer support or communication = no longer a customer.

I have to agree Fred... I've been buying Dell products pretty much exclusively for the past 2 decades, both personally & professionally... thousands of units. I have not been as pleased with the purchases I've made from Dell in the past 4 or 5 years (incl the Streak 7)... I'm a pretty loyal brand customer, once I choose a brand I stick with it long term, but it may indeed be time to make a switch to a new brand.

Dell doesn't care how we think and feel. They already got our money. They're not going to tell us anything.

There isn't any 7 inch tablets on the market yet with Honeycomb. I heard version 3.2 is optimized for 7inch tablets.

The Huwaei Mediapad is just around the corner, that has different hardware.

Theres also the Viewsonic Viewpad 7x and Acer Iconia A100 pad just around the corner, they have the same hardware and will be released with Honeycomb.

It would make great sense for Dell to push out Honeycomb for the Streak 7. They cannot abandon this after less than a year, I've had £80 Android phones that have seen more updates than this.

If they did push out Honeycomb for this, they could re-market along side there new 10inch, it would be one of very few 7inch tablets with Honeycomb and would stand along the upcoming Viewpad 7x and Acer A100, with the same hardware but with a no doubt slightly less price.

Things like not supporting hardware like this will greatly effect future sales, people will be put off with the Idea that theres little support with the hardware.

This tablet, with Honeycomb, re-marketed along side its new 10inch brother would see huge sales boosts no doubt. Still no real hardware advances yet, the best are still the tegra 2's.

Saying that, if Dell do fail us. It might be a lot easier for someone to get a working custom rom going for this once the Acer and Viewsonic's are released, same hardware with 7inch screen. The latest offering was pulled from a 10inch xoom.
