EMC Unity Maximum Initiator Paths

Hi all,

We have EMC Unity 500,600 and 450F in our environment. There is an issue about initiator paths limit!

The one of Unity 500 devices is using for virtualization, when initiator paths reached to 2048, new initiator can not be logged on to array. Of course, EMC used "Max Initiator Per Array" and not initiator paths in documents. The limit is 2048 for Unity 500 and 4096 for Unity 600.

But we have also same problem on EMC Unity 600, when initiator paths reached to 2048, new initiator can not be logged on to array!

About physical connectivity, each ESXi host has 4 HBA. We have fabric with Brocade SAN switches that the SAN switches are connected via ISL to each other.

We had to keep down one of HBA adapter on each server to have more online servers. Can anyone explain the limit on EMC Unity? Why situation is same on both EMC Unity 500 and 600?

Hi Davood,

Is everything on the latest version?

Some steps to try

  1. Identify the unused initiators (registered but not logged in).
  2. Unregister these initiators.
  3. Reduce the number of paths if possible to the storage groups.

Try to add more LUNs

I have not been able to find anything about why they are the same limit, your best option is to call phone support.
