HA connectivity for Unity replication ports

My customer uses the Unity as external array for VSP. However only the 2 replication ports (SPA0 & SPB0) are working (for unknown reason). As a result, it would make to have each port connected to different fabric for redundancy.

However the Unity HA white paper suggests the same port on both SPs be on same switch. That also let me think what if we use these two ports for replication. Do we also need to keep them on the same fabric? Don't we lose redundancy that way? can anyone please explain a little? Thanks.

Since the physical ports must always match on both SPs, the same port numbers are always used for host access in the event of a failover. For example, if Ethernet Port 2 on SPA is currently used for host access, the same port would be used on SPB in the event of a failure. Because of this, connect the same port on both SPs to the same switch or host for multi-pathing purposes

Hi,

SP-A FCP 4 of array1 need to be in same fabric as SP-A FCP4 of array2

SP-B FCP 4 of array1 need to be in same fabric as SP-B FCP4 of array2

So no redundancy within the fabric, only accross the fabrics. Works as designed :-/

If 1 fabric fails, all replicated sessions within that fabric are paused and if that takes long to fix,

you have to switch them manually to the other SP (SP Owner)

I agree it would make more sense if you could connect SP-A and SP-B replication ports to fabric1 and have other ports on SP-A and SP-B for fabric2. However, this is Unity so for now we have to deal with it.

Unity is mature, but not grown-up (yet).

VNX and MirrorView works the same, only the A0 and B0 ports are usable for replication.

Maybe a possibility to present the storage to the VSP and let them do the replication ?

Thanks Ron. that makes sense to for remote replication. but isn't that contradictory to the guideline of connect the same port on both SPs to the same switch  for multi-pathing purposes?

that applies when zoning hosts (clients) to the Unity

The FC interconnect for sync mirroring is a different use case
