LUN Z, Comm Path

Hi everyone. I have a question related to the LUNZ for Unity and VNX.

Within VNX i had the option to disable the LUNZ path, is there no way to achieve this with Unity? What is the LUNZ really for? I have read several answer.

Is it needed for Windows Host with and without agents and power path?

Is it needed for ESXi Hosts?

What is the drawback of disabling it? Or leaving it on?

I also read that as soon as there is a HLUN wiht ID 0 the LUNZ disappears, is this true?

I also read that as soon as there is a HLUN LUNZ disappears, is this true?

Further on Unity and VNX it automatically tries to assign the Host LUN ID 0 to a new LUN but it seems when there is LUNZ with ID 0 that this new LUN with ID 0 is not displayed on the host side. Is this true?

I am a bit confused.......

It is just a feature for hosts to access the array even if no lun with HLU 0 is presented to the host.

Correct. LunZ purpose is to make the array visible to hosts when hlu0 is not assigned. This allows the host to login to the array.

Refer this for more info : LUNZ or ghost LUN explained briefly.

For unity, i think this VNXe KB should have same meaning - https://support.emc.com/kb/335382
