Unity upgrade question - unable to add 3.84 TB SSD drives to existing pool with 3.2 TB SSD drives or create new pool

My customer decommissioned a Unity 300F array and removed a 25-slot DAE with 25 x 3.84 TB SSD drives (PN 005052154, SAS_FLASH_4).  They plan to install this DAE and drives in an existing Unity 600F array at another site.  The existing Unity 600F has a traditional storage pool with 35 x 3.2 TB SSD drives (PN 005051739, SAS_FLASH_3).

Unity Designer won’t allow me to add the new 3.84 TB drives to the existing pool nor will it allow me to create a new pool with only the new 3.84 TB drives.

Could someone tell me why the drive upgrade is failing?

Hello kulikn,

What is the current OE on your unity 600f?  Did you remove all existing data that was on the drives prior to adding it to your 600F system?

Unity 600F is running OE 5.0.3.14.

I've been able to get Unity Designer to allow creation of a second storage pool containing the new 3.84 TB drives.  The issue was Unity Designer won't allow the storage pool name to have space in it.  Using the pool name Pool2 instead of Pool 2 allowed creation of a second storage pool.

I'm still not able to get Unity Designer to add the 3.84 TB Flash4 drives into the existing traditional storage pool containing 3.2 TB Flash3 drives.  If I add more 3.2 TB Flash3 or 1.6 TB Flash3 drives, Unity Designer will allow either of these drives to be added to the existing storage pool, but not the 3.84 TB Flash4 drives.  If I change the existing storage pool from traditional to dynamic, Unity Designer will allow the storage pool to contain both the 3.2 TB Flash3 and 3.84 TB Flash4 drives.

I suspect it's not supported to add Flash4 drives to an existing tradional storage pool containing Flash3 drives.

Hello kulikn,

You are correct, in traditional pools all the drives need to be the same size.

Drive size does not appear to be the issue.  Unity Designer will allow me to add more 3.2 TB Flash3 or 1.6 TB Flash3 drives to the existing storage pool, but not the 3.84 TB Flash4 drives.

I suspect it's not supported to add Flash4 drives to an existing tradional storage pool containing Flash3 drives, but haven't been able to find this confirmed in available Unity documentation.
