Behavior of FAST VP when Gatekeepers are in the same Storage Group

Hi,

Can someone share some knowledge about a storage group behavior when gatekeepers are also allocated ( thick of course) in a storage group containing thin devices and running fast policies.

will the policies still work and data will be promoted or demoted ignoring the GK?

or because of presence of gatekeepers, policies will not run at all as all devs are not thin in the storage group.

Thanks in advance,

vivek

  • Thin devices, aka Virtual Devices used with EMC Virtual Provisioning, CAN be used as gatekeepers.  All the existing gatekeeper rules apply, and the thin gatekeeper device does not need to be bound to any storage pool.

Regarding the description in KB, GK does not need to be bound to any pool, That means FAST VP wouldn't affect GK

The gatekeeper devices will be ignored.

Even if you had 'thick' devices larger than GKs in the SG, if the SG is associated with a FAST VP policy, only the thin devices will matter.  It is allowed to have a mix of thick and thin in the SG, but only one type can be managed via FAST based on the policy type the SG is associated with.
