Limit growth of TF/VP SNAP

Hi,

We have VMAX 10K in Prod and DR. we are in the middle of migrating data from DMX to VMAX.

Migration is done at DR and reverse replicate to PROD is the plan.

While R2 BCV is restoring to R2, a VP Snap was configured and was in CopyOnWrite mode.

So, VP Snap started taking a full copy of R2 as the total R2 is restored with new data. By the time we identify what is happening, this ate up lot of space and made the migration very slow.

How can VP SNAP is configured in VMAX so that it can grow only up to a percentage of changes in source or a given fixed size?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

on the VMAX2 (10K,20K,40K) family, there is no automated mechanism to prevent vpsnap (vse clone) from taking up a certain amount of space.  You'll need to script an external solution using symcli or RESTapi to monitor and then "trim" (aka terminate whatever snaps you deem appropriate)

Thanks Haralson.

Can I create separate thin pool with smaller (let's say 20% of my prod vol) size and create vpsnap in it. Will the vpsnap grow up to total capacity of the thin pool to which it belongs and collapse.
