VMAX40K: Can I add multiple Port Groups to a Masking View
Hello,
I have 2 FA ports per PG already used in masking views in a VMAX40K in production.
I want to go to 4 FA ports PG without downtime on production hosts. I want to combine 2 old 2 FA ports PG onto one new 4 FA ports PG.
What should be the best approach?
A second way will be to add PG2 to MV1 (where PG1 is already mapped) and add PG1 to MV2 (where PG2 is already mapped).
Is it possible to add a second PG to an existing MV (with an PG already mapped)?
Thank you,
Alex

Yes that's right, please read the definition below,
A port group is a logical grouping of Fibre Channel and/or iSCSI front-end director
ports. The only limit on the number of ports in a port group is the number of ports in
the Symmetrix system; however it is likely that a port group contains a subset of the
available ports in order to isolate workloads to specific ports.
Please note there is no restriction of number of ports in a Port Group. As we discussed earlier a Masking View there can be only one storage group, port group and initiator group.
Hope this helps!

As far as i know, if you want to add ports to a port group the ports that you are adding should not be part of any other PG.

Thank you for your answer.
And what will happen when I will add a new FA port to a PG that is already included in a MV?
Will devices (from SG) be mapped automatically to the new added FA port?

I have done some tests: when I added a new port FA (10f:0) to PG already masked, all devices from SG were mapped to the new port. That's good!
BUT
when I removed newly added FA port from the same PG the devices were not unmapped!!!!
when I looked in the MV they seems unmapped (you cannot see 10f:0):
------ ----- ----------------------- ---- ---- -------
but looking at devices with symdev:
I just did the devices WD on 10f:0 and then unmapped them from 10f:0.
The question: Is this normal behavior?
In my effort to reorganize PGs on a VMAX40k I need to remove some FAs from existing PGs in order to add them to other PGs
