What are the best practices to Create normal Lun in symmetrix using unisphere.

We have tried to Create a normal lun in vmax using unisphere. Commit operation failed. Please let me know if there any best practices to create a normal lun in vmax. Just need to create a device without any special attribute.. Unisphere version is V1..5.1

Hi Prakashram,

there is no any best practise to create a device via the UNI.

The procedure is straight forward.

What kind of device are you ttrying to create?

How many hypers?

Do you have the Auto Meta enabled?

As Sauradh said, something else is going on.

Try to open the today's log file at C:\Program Files\EMC\SYMAPI\log directory and check over there exaclty what the error was.

It is more detailed inside the log file.

Try to execute the command "symconfigure -sid xxx query" in order to check if another configuration has been held and not finished but the error would be different but in any case execute it.

Also try executing the symconfigure command with a -v option.

symconfigure -sid xxxx -v "create dev count=n, config= , size= , config= , dynamic_capability= ";

-v (verbose option) might help you with reasons for failure, also as mentioned above, please check the symapi logs for more information.

Thanks,

Sreehari

If commit was failed then probably there was something else wrong. the best practice would be to keep the LUN size standard across the vmax and if u have to exceed that size then go for meta with even number of members.

Saurabh
