vmax bin file question about add fa with gige configured

hello we have to add 2 fa module on vmax 40k and configure it with gige port for srdf ..

our question is :

-do we need to put lock before activity or this config change is one of that change that doesn't need lock for config change ?

-do you have a white paper or anything als in wich it is write what kind of information do we need from customer to configure it correctly ?

thanks

Hi,

For the information you will want to provide all of the IP info related to both the GIGE ports you are configuring for the new module locally (IP/Netmask/Gateway/SID) as well as the Target Array information for the target GIGE module you want to connect via IP (TGT RE IP/Netmask/Gateway/SID).

You will want the full SID of the Source and TGT array as the Remote Tables will need to be updated in both arrays. Both arrays will need a BIN load which will come with a config lock at the time of the actual load. If you are physically adding a new module to the array, that will likely lock the entire array for the duration of the BIN request change and approval (I think this is usually quoted as 5 days). If you are just converting an existing FA to RA's and the channels are cleared of devices, I believe that might be a quick configuration lock during the time of the BIN load only and the BIN file can be built without locking the array.

Check with your site CE just to make sure because if there is any logical change required as part of the FA conversion, that might end up requiring a lock of the array. They can validate your conversion request and look at the array to see if that would be the case.

HTH,
