VSI Plugin 5.6 will not enable on a windows 7 64 bit machine

Greetings,

I've installed the VSI 5.6 storage viewer component and the latest automatically installed Solutions enabler that installs with the package, and have the following issue:

The plug-in shows up as disabled in vsphere and right clicking on the plug-in and selecting enabled appears to do nothing, and the plug-in remains disabled.

Any idea how to get this to work?

I've already uninstalled and re-installed several times, using several different versions to no avail.

Thanks,

-Dan Galasso

btw, seeing that you just registered on the forum, I almost overlooked that.  Let me be the first to welcome you to the community, and above all thank you for being an EMC customer.

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility.  Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right.  Then search for and select: "Everything VMware at EMC".

With Windows 7 (specifically UAC), what you will want to do is run the vSphere Client itself as (local) Administrator.  So right-click on the vSphere Client shortcut, select "Run as administrator".  Let me know if that let's you enable it.

There is one other specific scenario where it failed to enable that I had encountered in the field, but had more to do with SSL certs and the vSphere WDK.  It is an exception though so I'll only walk you through the latter if UAC doesn't account for it.  I will ask you to gather logs within the EMC VSI framework itself in that case.

Keep me informed of your progress.

Christopher,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried running as administrator and that does not seem to have any effect. I get no error messages either. I simply click enable after the right click, and it acts as if nothing has been pressed.

I'm not familiar with pulling logs from the framework, so any assistance with that is appreciated.

Thanks

-Dan

Do you see an error in the plug-ins page ? Would you be able to attach a screenshot and also the logs for VSI would be at

%appdata%\EMC\Virtual Storage Integrator

I do not see any errors in the plugin page.

Here is an excerpt from the EMC.VSI.Vsphere4.txt file:

Hmmm... I had one other scenario where it failed but I don't see the familiar SSL error that stood out  (had to do with the SSL cert not matching the actual hostname of the vSphere Server).

I searched our KB articles and found one that is interesting.  Can you walk through it?

Cannot enable VSI Storage Viewer plugin

https://support.emc.com/kb/169469

In the meantime, if you haven't already, on behalf of your array, you should also consider opening up an SR.
