vSphere Storage API for Storage Awareness (VASA) white paper published

I just published a white paper describing what VASA is, how to install and configure it, and most importantly how to use it with Symmetrix storage. Enjoy!

Sweet! Thanks, Cody. I will test VASA in lab with the guidance of this WP.

Great! Let me know if you have any questions or comments about VASA or the document itself.

Cody, do you happen to know which SE virtual appliance includes VASA, SMC and SPA. It took me a lot of time to search all-in-one VA but still not find it yet.

The SPA vApp includes everything. It goes as follows:

SE vApp = SE/SMI-S

SMC vApp = SE/SMI-S/SMC

SPA vApp = SE/SMI-S/SMC/SPA

Thanks for your sharing, Cody!  SE \ SMI-S server supports in-band (SAN attached) and out of band (network) connectivity for VNX and CLARiiON arrays and in-band connectivity only for Symmetrix arrays.  For CLARiiON and VNX, supported Navisphere 28,29,30, Unishhere 31.

can i add device groups SPA vApp ?  I like these virtual appliances but being able to add symmetrix devices group would be a big plus.

Not directly from the web interface. You have to create DGs/CGs from a remote CLI host with a client/server connection to the SE instance on the vApp.

bummer, local functionality would be great (even if its' just the command line). This is the only thing that is stopping us from moving SMC/SPA to a vAPP. We create devices group per host/app and then it's so much easier to looks at statistics in SPA.
