Adding and Upgrading a VNX5300 Data mover

Hello everyone,

I have a customer whose original VNX 5300's came with only 1 Data Mover. They have 13 VNX's. Their main VNX is far

behind on firmware and they  would like to upgrade it to the latest code.

Question is, if they purchase another Data Mover for High Availability (HA), will that allow them to update the firmware without any downtime? They would like to know soon as possible as roughly half their VNX's are running out of support. Unfortunately they can't afford downtime so if another Data Mover gives us the opportunity to upgrade that would be very helpful.I have sent a note out asking for the revision they have now and yet to hear back from them.

Thanks in advance for your help.

there will be a slight disruption in service, it depends how many file systems (including snapshots) you have. NFS clients typically will seat and wait for NFS file system to come back, CIFS clients will get disconnected. I've seen failover time take on average 40seconds - 2 minutes. And remember it will happen twice, one for failover and one for fail back.
