Any experiences on NFS export availibility during firmware upgrade

Are there any people who have real life experiences on upgrading VNX OE for file from 7.0->7.1 in regard to NFS export availability ? One of our customers uses NFS export in combination with vSphere and needs to upgrade VNX OE. When using the CLI method there is the choice to do a datamover failover; it states is should take about 1 minute but my guess is that this will depend. Is it safe to choose the failover method and keep all VMs running or is it better to shutdown all VM's ? Are there any people with experience regarding this issue ? If it's better to shutdown the entire vSphere environment this is a real disadvantage comparing it with vSphere and using FC block-based LUN's,

Stefan.

I have had that done for a customer on several large VNX7500 used for vmWare NFS data stores and it worked fine.

For 7.0 to 7.1 you need to use the CLI upgrade method (not GUI with USM) since that allows you to do an in-family like upgrade

There you can decide when to do the data mover reboot and also do a failover/failback during a reboot.

Or course it doesn’t hurt to do the data mover failover during a time of the day when its not peak traffic – if possible
