Data Mover Configuration for DR
Hi Guys,
Just wanted to check that its OK to configure a single data mover on my DR VNX although I have 2 (active / standby) on my primary?
What are the risks/implications of this?
Thanks
JB

are you running out of supported capacity on one datamover and you wanted to use another one as an active one ?

it's ok but if you need to do maintenance on the DR unit or it completely goes out, with one datamover your replication will grind to a halt because it will have no where to failover to.

Good point dynamox - in view of that its probably a safer bet to use two at DR for what they cost.
Thanks for the rapid response!

No just a design consideration question, thats all.
Would the same apply for control station at the DR site. Ie - using 2?
Thanks

if you have one control station and it's not available, you can't manage the system but as far as datamover functionality is concerned ..it keeps on chugging along.

Thanks dynamox - That much I do know but what I'm not sure on is if anything would happen to replication if my CS at the DR site went offline?

It will but you cant manage it and some operations like file system extension might not work

i believe once replication is configured, you can take CS offline and replication will keep on going.
