EMC dropping 'support' for older HP servers ??

Somewhere between October 4 and October 5, EMC updated their support matrix in the E-lab navigator.  Yesterday, I built a list of all our HP servers. Today, I went back to retrieve it and E-lab tells me that half our server population is no longer listed. It appears that E-lab only lists the last 3 generations of HP Proliant boxes. Since the G8 was released in late summer, G6 is the oldest supported - no more G1, G2, or G5.

So we're now faced with having to replace half our data center if we want to get any EMC support that involves a server.  Are there any other HP users out there who will need to face this problem ??

thanks,

Don M.

i have a lot of G3,G4,G5, G6 HP C-Class blades, EMC will not refuse support on arrays that these servers are connected to. If you get any pushback from support get your SAM/EMC Team involved. Worst case scenario your TC will have to fill out some paperwork for an RPQ.

It appears that EMC will indeed use this as an excuse not to provide support. We've had an ongoing issue since July regarding SLES11 SP1 servers crashing during a NDU. We had a meeting on 10/4 where they provided a spreadsheet of numerous components in our environment that they said could not be located in E-lab navigator. They were not interested in providing anything further, even for the newer servers that were fully listed in E-lab. It was after this session that I discovered the switch in E-lab navigator - on 10/4 I was able to locate all our 'unsupported' items ( G1 - G5 Proliant servers, HP AE311A HBAs). On 10/5, all the HP servers older than G6 had dropped off the matrix.

sounds like your manager need to get in touch with EMC district manager and advise that this type of support will influence future purchases of EMC hardware.

Vendor seems to have dropped the support for those Servers. Elab generally does not  kill a product if the original vendor still supports it.

Please, refer to : https://elabnavigator.emc.com/vault/zip/esm_by_os.zip Page Number: 66, Point 39.

Well then I am not sure why it is documented there but I reckon they wouldn't do it. Until Vendor doesn't put 'em EOSL, EMC doesn't. I stumbled upon this today hence, thought to update the SR.

Anyhow, if possible can you tell me if your server models are listed on that document I mentioned above?

If yes, I will try and check for the team who updates it and see if they can verify anything.

Yes, our old servers are on this list.  DL385 G1, G2, G5p ; DL585 G2, G5 ; DL365 G5; DL380 G4,G5; DL360 G4

I just got off the phone with HP support, they have an internal list for EOSL.  He quoted me dates:  1/13 for DL385 G1; 10/13 for DL385 G2; 1/15 for DL385 G5p.

We have a DL585 G5 that's still under the 3 year warranty.

If you have contact with the E-lab team please ask them where they got their EOSL information from HP.

Well, the good news - we got the RPQ approved for this flock of 'obsolete' servers.

The bad news - the RPQ is apparently unique to our company.  Anyone else with HP older than G6 will have to submit their own RPQ.

No one at EMC would even entertain the possibility that the E-lab made a mistake in de-listing these HP boxes.

thanks,

Don M.

I guess Sowmya did clear it out about the Support Matrix.

The G1 through G5 series servers from HP were removed from the Oct ESM according to HP’s request. We contacted HP today to double confirm that these servers were in fact EOSL. They told us that the G1 and G2 servers are certainly EOSL and will not be supported by HP, and therefore by EMC. They are looking into the G5 servers and will let us know. Please stay tuned.
