You cannot decrease the size of any datastore and protection. So, be sure to set the size correctly before click Apply. Only way is to delete and recreate with correct size. This is by design.

Additionally, for thin provisioned VMware NFS datastores and thin provisioned Shared Folders, you can reduce the production resource's size and the protection space down to the current allocated size for each. You can't reduce these values below the current allocated size.
