VNX Port Zoning + RecoverPoint

Hi there,

I have a VNX 5300 and am setting up zoning. I will be deploying RecoverPoint down the road and want to nail all zoning at setup.

There are the four on-board 8Gbps ports and an additional FC quad port NIC in each SP.

Is it acceptable to use Ports 2 (MirrorView) and 3 for fabric connectivity and for communication with the RPA? I want to avoid any conflicts between MirrorView port and RecoverPoint. The MirrorView Enabler is installed but have not plans to use MirrorView, ever.

Also, which connectivity method below is best practise for a VMware environment with RPAs and a Unified 5300. The SP cabling is different in the diagrams.

I am no zoning or RP expert

But I know for a fact that RP cannot use a mirrorview designated port when the mirrorview enabler is installed

Both technologies use a a particular driver on the array and are exclusive

Remove the MV enabler. If you use the MV ports RP will give you a warning or an error while running DM.

As far as which cabling method to use. You can use either one, doesn't matter.

Hey,

thanks for that. In the end I went with using two ports from the additional FC quad port NIC and went with the VMware cabling doc.

cheers
