VNX Replicator Multiple Interconnects Confusion
I'm in the process of configuring VNX Replicator between two VNX 7500's. We're dealing with two data movers on either side (server_2 & server_3). I'm unclear on how many Data Mover interconnects are needed between the source and target VNX's. Some of the documentation seems to indicate that you only need a single interconnect on either side using server_2.
Question 1: Do I need an interconnect configured for each Data Mover within each VNX so 4 total? Or, will 2 suffice, one on either side?
Question 2: Does the fact that I'm using a VDM on the source VNX and replicating that VDM have any impact on this whatsoever?

VDM’s dont matter there
Its called a „data mover interconnect“ so you need one interconnect for each active data mover pair that want to replicate
See the Replicator manual for more details

Right, but if only one DM is active at any given time, do I still need an interconnect for BOTH server_2 & server_3?
Interconnect 1:
VNX1-server_2 > VNX2-server_2
Interconnect 2:
VNX1-server_3 > VNX2-server_3
Interconnect 3:
VNX1-server_2 > VNX2-server_3
Interconnect 4:
VNX1-server_3 > VNX2-server_2

I appreciate the info. That makes perfect sense. There was a diagram in one of the VNXP Replicator documents that led to me to believe otherwise. I must have been misinterpreting it.

if you configuration is server_2 (active) and server_3 (standby) , then you only configure interconnects between server_2 <-->server_2. In case of datamover failure, standby datamover assumes active datamover's identity (which includes its name server_2, MAC address, IP ..etc). That's why you don't need to do anything for standby datamover.

It was on page 37 of the "Replicator" document. Release 7.1

ok, that's an example with multiple active datamovers.

Thank you. It seems like that could be written much more clearly. I appreciate the help.

agree, should have been split into multiple examples, one with one active/stanby and one with active/activate datamovers.
