VNX allocation through MDS 9513 to IBM Z?

One of our VARs is wanting us to do a POC of Linux on our Z series box.  Problem is our mainframe env. is really small and they don't have any capacity to create servers and test them.  The VAR is saying they can set the ficon card to FCP and allow us to connect to one of our VNX 7500s through our MDS switchs.  Only requirement is since the SFPs are short wave the Ficon card needs to be sw as well.

Besides the opinions of why would anyone do this, can we technically do this?  Of course i'm not finding much doc and I have always thought this was at very least unsupported.  If someone can point me to some doc that says do or do not do this that would be helpful.
