VNX1 series how to replace a disk that is not yet faulted
Hi All,
Does anyone has a procedure/experience regarding VNX1 series how to replace a disk that HAS NOT YET FAILED, but is starting to cause issues such as LUN faults, due to soft media errors. Will you be able to provide detailed steps?
Appreciate your input.

In Unisphere, go to Disks, under Hardware.
Right-click on the disk in question.
Select 'Copy to Spare'.
Once that operation completes (could be hours...perhaps a bunch of them...) that disk will show as a status of unbound; at that point, just remove it.
Shorter version: if you just yank out a drive, as long as the array was healthy, it will just invoke a hot spare, and do a rebuild on the RAID group that it is part of...but I'd only do that as a last resort.
