VNX2 hot sparing policy question
Hello everybody,
I am currently installing a VNX with 214 disk, 207 of which are grouped in a storage pool.
If I go by the recommendation, and reserve 1 hot spare for every disks and that my maths are correct;
207 / 30 equal 6,9.
Why is Unisphere saying I need 8 disks ? It seems it is calculation the hot spare need on the total number of disks (214)
not the total number of disks in the pool (207).
You don't need to hot-spare a hot-spare, do you ?

yes you do - 214 / 30 = 7,13 - rounded up is 8
the rule is 1 HS per 30 drives (total nr. of drives which includes data, spares and unassigned)
more details are in the VNX White paper
On VNX2 you can Change the policy if you want.
