Hello, I need to know the steps involved in converting a VNX5200 unified box to a block only box? there is no data on the box and is yet to be configured.

Many thanks Bret@S,
A Customer of mine is short of space and power and now wants to remove the unified element.
In thoery I think what you are saying it can be done. but I am just looking for a big yes or no from EMC on this.
I need to let the customer know by today.

I think it requires a re-image and reinitialize (after cs and dme removal) which would more than likely be a Partner/EMC task. Re-image tools/procedures are not publicly available.
Lots of questions !
May not even be supported yet. Have you asked your EMC am for any advice ?
I'm curious to know why... save rack space ? Kit is going in colo ?
Can you just use block only provisioning and leave the CS and DME in place ?

Obviously I can't give you that definitive answer, and I doubt you'll get anything 'official', even from EMC staff on here.
Reach out to your EMC account manager and try though.

Hi,
converting a Unified Systems to a block only system by removing the control station and data movers is not supported in general.
Please reach out to your EMC or partner sales team.
