VNX5300 for File - Backup to directly attached SCSI Tape library
We have a VN5300 for file for which we need to backup the CIFS shares.
The only available tape library has a SCSI connectivity and not fiber channel.
As per the "Configuring NDMP Backups on VNX" guide, both options should work where the Data mover is directly connected to the tape library unit with either SCSI or FC.
Is there a SCSI port on the VNX5300 Data mover for that to work? If yes, any idea about its P/N because it doesn't appear on the VNX5300 parts locator.
Thanks in advane.

The VNX Datamovers (DM) does not have any SCSI Interface.
If you need to connect the DM to a SCSI Tape, you need to use a Fibre to SCSI Bridge.
Qualified Bridges are:

Maybe a easier way would be using NDMP over the network.

But what is the benefit of NDMP, if you don't have fiber channel connectivity?
Isn't the purpose of NDMP is to send the Data over FC and the Metadata over LAN?

Same here – you send the data to a FC-SCSI bridge which just converts FC to SCSI
So you are still talking to a directly attached tape drive
If you mean 3-way NDMP (network based) you still have the benefit that its probably faster and that it backups mixed protocol attributes and compression which a backup of a CIFS share cant.

In my case, it is an IBM tape library with SAS connectivity (2M SAS/Mini-SAS cable).
For that, are there any recommended or tested SAS to FC bridges/converters that i can use to connect the tape library SAS port to the Data mover FC port, for backups?

The NDMP Compatibility list is in Powerlink. Search for NAS NDMP Interoptability Matrix. At last check, there were no SAS bridges on it, only SCSI. You can talk to your SAM or TC to request an RPQ to support a SAS to FC bridge, but I wouldn't count on it. Your best bet will probably be three-way NDMP over the network.
